All that matters is avoiding sulfates in your shampoo. Sodium lauryl sulfate is the most common detergent in shampoos because it is extremely cheap to manufacture. But it's far too harsh of a detergent for long term use on human hair, and it regularly strips all of the protective oils from your hair, drying it out and causing split ends. Generally you want to look for "organic" shampoos, as these usually just mean shampoos without sulfates. Get yourself a decent conditioner alongside it and use both in moderation and you'll never have issues with either dry hair or dandruff again.
