What is the best method to writing a novel and what software/notes do you use?

Outline on paper, generally a cheap, college-ruled spiral notebook.
I draft and edit in FocusWriter.
Compile and create final draft in Scrivener.
OSX
There is no best method.
You have Pulitzer Prize winners who draft using pen and paper, and then you have genre writers who need the latest Macbook Pro and Scrivener to even write a word.

I like drafting in FocusWriter simply for the aesthetics. I like the blank, no frills desktop, no distractions. I use the black screen/green text combo.
I like to clean up my stories in Scrivener to get them ready for publication. Again, I like the environment for this part of the process...feels more businesslike.
I tried doing all my writing in Scrivener, but it has too many bells and whistles for drafting...I get distracted trying to figure out how to do something. Once a story is finished, the interface works well for formatting stories and novels.
Not saying it's a better method, just what currently works for me. I just switched from pencils to pens a couple of years ago.
Paper and pen or whatever fucking works
