It is not true. There was a biographer who tracked down people who knew him. He was just one of those many people who never had a photo taken of him. Or if he did it was lost.

Maybe he and his second wife took a nice picture together, but after they split up she tore it up. I haven't read the bio, so I don't know if he asked her. All he could turn up was the sketches from Engels

they were really good friends apparently. and engels was very enthusiastic about stirner to marx. but in the end marx and engels put out a scathing critique of stirner which i'm assuming was driven primarily by marx.
