Good ideas for a children book /lit/
A hungry, hungry caterpillar who ate too much McDonald's and got fat. Halfway through the novel, there is a shift in realization that it's actually a book about a large mining truck, who is thirsty for diesel.
What age?
what age are we talking about?
assuming aged 2-6
for the LOVE OF GOD don't make it about some ((hidden)) morals like "always share", "that's what happens if you don't eat your veggies", "clean up your room".
make it for pure entertainment.
have high quality illustrations (from an actual artist, not those shitty and cheap computer generated pics).
don't play into hard gender roles or parents these days won't buy it anymore. also exclude religion for that reason.
make the protagonists relatable for KIDS. make them have imperfect behaviour. kids find that hillarious and it's soothing for the parents to know that it's not only their kid behaving that way.
make appropriate pic/text ratios.
don't make it one of those "everybody lves each other and is always nice to each other and we never argue and always obey" abominations

i've toyed sith the idea of making childrens books myself.
i have kids myself and have read a fuckton of childrens books for work (yeah, i'm a preschool teacher. fight me).
most of them suck.
what i'm always looking for are ones that fit the criterias i listed above. my all time favorites are older books based around photographies. they are extremely well made. the concept is perfect but it could use an update. pic related. it's basically just a tiny puppet that goes on all iind of adventures. he does the same stuff the kids do, but obviously, everything is ((literally)) bigger than life for him. he builds a raft, gets into wild water, sunbaths till his clothes are dry again, meets a froggo, sleeps in the reed and so on. i'd love you forever if you could make something alike

A talking duck called Philip K. Duck who eats the wrong mushroom and hallucinates
The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales
Cloudy with a chance of meatballs is good too.
also, don't make one of those stupid books with talking animals
Don't Be Shy, Azathoth
If you want to sell, make a children's book about a trans kid.

yup. also, ((subtly) include black and gay people

No, don't bother including gay people. Gay people, esp. gay men, are an oldhat, rightwing phenomenon.

you are supposed to not give them centerstage. just make an uncle have a bf or the neighbours daughter be black. parents love if you act like that's the normal thing and not even worth mentioning
