copying masters' work is a great way to improve in visual arts so its not just classicist circlecerking on /ic/'s part, not that they have any deficiency on that front. Not sure what the equivalent is for literature. I dont have any formal training in writing like i have for painting. I dont imagine copying a poem would grant the same insight as remaking a painting

In literature it's not about copying a poem. It's more about translating it or writing a new one but with the same metric, rhyme scheme and so on
