Psychoanalysis is not philosophy (unless you subscribe to esoteric lacanian values). It's more like a talking cure. the resolution which the analyst draws out of your words aren't necessarily statements of fact or poignant philosophisations, their only use is to encourage you to rethink your current position and direct you towards making positive changes to your life. Always remember the signifier is arbitrary, you aren't going to make a startling philosophical revelation through psychoanalysis. That's not its endgame.

Actually, I've been wondering. I get how Freud is really famous, he revolutionized philosophy.
But how come Lacan is so famous, it's not like any of his statements are proveable or anything, why did so many people entertain his intellect/ideas?
And no, I do like Lacan, but I'm genuinely curious about this. Also, how come litterature (and probably philosophy) is the only branch that actually still cares about Freud? I'm not sure about Lacan, but I don't imagine it being widely used in contemporary Psychology.

Freud is still enormous in contemporary psychology. Most branches of psychological intervention are based on models and assumptions put forway by Freud. He is still taught in undergrad, and there are still schools that train in neo-Freudian practice.
