I particularly prefer first-person, and it can be done masterfully much like anything in the right hands, the beef it gets mostly is that many people have acquired the (not so incorrect) notion that first-time, upcoming writers - many of which will more often than not write some fantasy/YA bullshit - will quickly grab to this style of narration and stick to it, bringing the nearly always present sister-mistake of first-time writers of making their protagonists pretty much themselves.

But heed my words when I say that those types, when working on third-person, manage to generate an even further reaching level of cringe-worthiness that just shouldn't even be possible.
