Another Soviet novel about Stalingrad is Days And Nights by Konstantine Simonov.
It was a big hit and wasn't confiscated by the government.

Every obscure russian 'masterpiece' gets compared to war and peace, usually by the trust-fund middle-managers hoping this obscure reprint wont flop. No one would buy it otherwise

Yeah it's pretty great. Don't take goodreads seriously tho most of that shit's a bunch of tweens
