Why is this book not better known? It's objectively his best work
Really? I'll give it a try, thanks for the recommendation. I've enjoyed other Twain and would like to delve in a bit more.

Because being Mark Twain's best work isn't all that high of a distinction.

It's not really in the style of his other books. It's not satirical or ironic, it's a fairly straight take on a historical figure. It's written novel-style, but is backed up by about ten years of historical research. He considered it the only important book he ever wrote, and I tend to agree. While some of his other works may be entertaining, they don't have the staying power of Joan D'Arc. Which is why it's a shame nobody reads it.

Thanks I'll check it out

it seems these days to only appeal to people interested in Joan of Arc. I am planning to read it but the only thing that turned me onto it was reading nonfiction about Joan. I read pic related about a month ago and am currently going through some of the original trial manuscripts. I had never even heard of Twain's book until I started digging around for more material on the subject.

is it true she wielded two blades at once?
