Plato and Daioism/confucianism. Once you start taking philosophy too seriously you begin to realize that we really are in the cave, that there is a deeper, realer reality of patterns that we are guided by.
The Dao is inexhaustible. The pattern, the process of reality that is in perfect equilibrium between chaos and order. When we leave the Doa, the "Good", the sustainable balance of creation and destruction, we head towards self-destruction. This is expressed in the material realm as corrupt, parasitic institutions; systems that are self-sustaining but contradict the law of equivalent exchange. We have left the Dao, the good, the sustainable patterns of reality. We have become parasites on this earth, institutions are parasites on society, they have created too much and destroyed too little.
But the Dao is inexhaustable, and it will through the metaphysical flow of reality usher in a rebirth of order through chaos: destruction, death, revelation.
The Horsemen of the Apocalypse have readied their steeds. They are on their way. The lamb will return, and he will save the true believers, the true adherents to good, the true adherents to the Dao.
