Kind of, yeah. Even though the central character of the series is basically a footnote in TG, TG is essential in terms of the rise of Steerpike and the setup for the stories of Fuchsia, the Prunesquallors, and Flay.

Peake retells enough about them in Gormenghast to clue you in, but the relationship between Titus/Fuchsia for example won't be as affecting to you without that backstory (I'm assuming).

Plus, although I love Gormenghast nearly as much, I think Titus Groan is the better book, and Gormenghast starts slow as shit.

ISTP I guess? Or maybe ISFP. I can't tell the difference between objective truth or harmony, since I definitely look for facts, but only because it makes me feel better, not for a higher cause.
Most definitely introverted and pragmatic though, and I have been working to make myself more adaptable, I think with some success.
>-Favorite author
Dostoyevsky I suppose? I don't read all of an author's work, just what I hear is the good stuff. I don't follow or worship authors.

I was studying computer science and informatics, but left university in my last year, since I already had a job and it was tiring trying to learn for exams, write a diploma work and actually working, as well as my parents needing me to visit more often.

Introverts genocide themselves by having less children, so its not an epidemic.
Also extroversion is directly correlated with happiness, so its not like being introverted is something people should willingly inflict on themselves.

I am an order of magnitude more intelligent than the average man, it's only natural that lesser lifeforms are more annoying than amusing and that I avoid contact.

There's nothing outside that can't be found in superior form within a book, and there's plenty inside books that doesn't exist outside them.

Tea is truly the thinking man's beverage. Though naturally I only drink herbal tea, caffeine is for wagecucks.

Vaginas look like B-movie creatures and societies obsession with sex is laughable.

Also, I'm less interested in parapsychology. I suspect that even if there was reliable data on these phenomena out there, it would be mired in garbage produced en masse by conspiracists and esotericists which I would be unable and unwilling to sort through.

DESU this guy is right. The results of my test were unambiguous yet half of the ENTJ characteristics are accurate or somewhat accurate while others do not describe me at all. Same goes for my zodiac sign (Capricorn). Also (for both), the descriptions are largely positive and appeal to your vanity.

An accurate personality type test would have a category for "mindless husk that receives and reproduces cultural norms yet thinks s/he is special" that at least 99% of the population falls into and I'm not excluding myself here. At the very least some of the personalities would just be shit tier because realistically lots of people have shitty personalities.

What do you guys think is the most shit tier personality?

Not at all actually. Once you understand the way the functions work, you understand not only the strengths of each type and why those strengths exist, etc., but you also understand each types weaknesses, why they exist, how they show up, etc.

The problem is the vast majority of people don't put enough time into studying Jung's theories to get anywhere near this point, and a large portion of the MBTI information out there is put forth by people trying to make a quick buck, or who don't understand it enough.

>which do you guys think is the most shit tier personality?

That's the other thing. Once you understand the function dynamics well enough, you realize how immaculately balanced all of the types really are - what's even more fascinating is how this balance is a product of human nature. Still, person to person it varies widely, and this is due to the Ego Development portion of Jung's theories - related to his theories on Individuation.

Also, that guy is an idiot. It isn't the rarest type either. INFJ is the rarest type. Actually, of all the NT types, INTP is most common.

I think that, funnily, for the average person, these things are more or less useless.

However, for those that express uniqueness in personality and higher than average intelligence, they are accurate enough in their discretion of these unique individuals to place them in their personality 'type'.

It seems to me that if you take someone who's smart, and quirky, and give them this test, they always come out INTP, ENTP, or ENTJ.

The rest are basically just ESFJ.

Or 'normies' as i call them.
>>
>>9136007
That's not at all possible. Those four types are so garishly different in how they interface with the real world, you would have to be a schizophrenic to truly "float between" them.

For starters, ENTP and INTP share all the same functions as one another, merely in different order, and even this minuscule difference in function placement makes the two types firmly diverse.

ENFP and INFP share certain functions with the prior two, but they do not share the Te-Fi axis (Extroverted Thinking, Introverted Feeling) with them.

However, as all four types you've gotten have a distinct preference for Ne (Extroverted Intuition) at or near the top of their function stack, you are definitely an Extroverted Intuitive. The only question is whether that is your first function or your second.

The real problem you're having is either in being honest with yourself during testing, or in finding an accurate test.

I recommend using Personality Types, as they not only have three reliable tests, but they also have supplemental tests to help you differentiate yourself between various types.

Likewise, Micheal Pierce has an excellent channel on YouTube for MBTI and even touches on Socionics.

Ideally, you could just have someone who knows what they're doing speak with you and type you in person, but even then, a lot of those people aren't very good.
>>
>>9136097
It's true that the average person cannot understand MBTI, but that is true of many things worth understanding.

Also, you left INTJ out of the NTs, and you forgot ISFJ with ESFJ (since most of the population is SFJ type with a near 50/50 preference for Extroversion over Introversion).

I would recommend 'The Message of the Atoms: Essays on Wolfgang Pauli and the Unspeakable', to give you an insight about Pauli: "He thought that physical and psychic phenomena are mutually complementary in the same way as the wave picture and the particle picture in atomic theory."

Remember, as Feynman said, whatever we will discover ahead of us, that breakthrough will not occur through the same tried methods such as intuition, looking just at numbers, symmetry etc. If these insights had worked before, we wouldn't be stuck. I'm sure you know that everyone is riding the inflation paradigm right now in cosmology, but there are other theories out there like the variable speed of light theory which may prove to be superior. My point is that a lot of physicists are still stuck in a materialist view, but there is so much more to life. A truly unifying theory won't exclude psychology, it will include it. If you're curious about it from a philosophical standpoint, I truly recommend Schopenhauer. If you read him with this in mind (and much of Jung is inspired from Schopy) then you might find something practically worthwhile in his work.

I wish you the best in your career, don't settle for little.

For his theories related to typology and Myers-Briggs, I recommend starting on Micheal Pierce's Youtube channel, and by reading the articles on Celebrity Types, and this blog, which has sections on Ego Development and other fascinating, less common subjects (http://mbti-notes.tumblr.com/). Once you're more familiar with MBTI, I recommend at least touching on Socionics. Especially the perspectives on the influence of the shadow functions (actually, I think Micheal Pierce may touch sufficiently on that in his "Introduction to Socionics" video).

After ruminating on that information for awhile, dive into his book, Psychological Types. That's what I did, anyway. Granted, I was only introduced to Jung's theories about five or six months ago.

It may sound like a lot, but if you just keep at it bit-by-bit you'll be fine. I live with an ENTJ, INTP, and ENTP (I am INTJ), and none of us have had any real trouble with the material.

N is a consistent theme through all the tests I take - all other preferences are close to 50/50 but N is always strongly expressed (and honestly I only have to read through the descriptions of S functions to know that I don't favour them).

As for why Ne over Ni, it's I guess to do with the way I process and deal with knowledge; I like abstractions and uncertainties, complex scenarios where there's scope to pull established facts and causal relationships apart and put them back together to tell a different story. I don't think I have a particularly rich inner life compared to the most artistic and imaginative (Ni) people I know, but given complex external stimuli I'm great at analysing it, playing with it, riffing off it.

Well Ni and Ne are both inclined to the realm of abstractions. That said, your statement could well be attributed to Ne.

Let me ask you this then, when you say you like abstractions and uncertainties, are you drawn to abstractions because of the inherent complexity of the system, and a desire to understand the system for the sake of it's complexity, or because there is a real connection between this abstraction and people?

>personality type:

I have no idea, i don't even know myself that much. It would be flattering to say I was like Frank Zappa or Einstein but I am not because I am nowhere near as talented. All I know is that I am introverted, but I am fascinated with the exterior world in a poetical and aesthetic way, and I am always looking for new ways to be a better person, but I am not very smart and suck cock at things that require lots of logical brain clockwork.

>Favorite author:

Ehh. None in particular. Maybe Ray Bradbury just because he's honest about what he likes which is the fantastical stuff but is solid at the same time. Joyce is real good with words and feels. I read pynchon but I never finished one of his books but from what I read I really liked it.

>Favorite book:
I haven't read an absolute ton of books, I don't think I have the same knowledge of what's good in literature as I do with other stuff, so as of now I really don't think I know what's good. I would say my favorite has been Portrait of the Artist so far, The Metamorphoses, Siddhartha, House on the Borderland, Watchmen was also amazing but that's not a book.

I don't think I belong in college. I am not good at figuring out what I want to do, I don't have lots of drive towards academic work, also a lot of people I look up too says college for the things I am interested in is a bunch of money burning bullshit.

desu i never read DFW.

the type of person I am is in constant flux with new self and outside discoveries. I am a very malleable person and I find myself contemplating between two or three different "truths" in random ass places like work or on the shitter.

I was at work thinking about things I heard in some alan watts lectures, if what he said was true about "you have to be tricked into believing you and everything else is god". Because this moved me a good way I thought this was going to be a belief that was going to be set in stone for a long time until I thought about just how bullshit this theory could be.

Is DFW like this? Is he empathetic to the person that is never set in stone and never trusts or accepts a single position about most things?

I like the mental exercise of playing with complex systems and concepts, I find it inherently satisfying. So I'd say 'for the sake of its complexity'. My day job is business analysis, including financial analysis which frequently has little connection to the real world, and I find it rewarding.

Haha... but then I don't know, because I don't identify with the Si function at all. I love good, varied food and creature comforts, I spend money pretty fecklessly and can't save for shit, I have terrible coordination and awareness of my own body.

I also don't have the awkwardness in groups and as the centre of attention that seems to be a common characteristics of INTPs. I have a real attention whore streak and honestly love being the centre of attention, including in performance/public speaking type scenarios. Although I'm also quite self-sufficient and emotionally reserved and usually can't be bothered making social plans, which I guess is why tests usually rate me somewhere on the 50/50 mark between intro/extraversion.

A 50/50 preference for Introversion and Extroversion isn't actually possible. Those test indicators merely mean your answers were inconclusive. Introversion and Extroversion affect how a person socializes, but they are actually not about that. They are about how you interface with objects in the real world - whether directly or indirectly, objectively or subjectively.

It's a bit complicated to explain, but I would recommend further looking into these subjects.

I'm an introvert, for example, but I am generally very outgoing and have made a good living in various sales positions in the past because I rely on my auxiliary (or second) function for those jobs. However, because of this, people have a difficult time believing I'm an introvert - as general definitions of these things often pertain merely to how a person socializes.

Anyway, I hope that helps encourage you, at least, to look into Jungian Typology further. You have a definite type - everyone, save, perhaps, the severely mentally handicapped and the insane, does.

I doubt I'll be able to type you from our conversations here. Many of the most useful indicators for me (a Ni-Te user) come from things I would need to observe personally.

With enough study, however, I'm sure you'll be able to type yourself, and, once you do, everything will begin to make sense.

This is one of those things that once seen, cannot be unseen. You start to see it everywhere - to put it in my ENTP friend's words, "It's like having a superpower."

Good luck, friend.

Spend a few years working with the clinically insane, as I have, and you'll know what I mean.

You're also misrepresenting what I said.

You'll understand the Jungian Typology the same way you understand ANY theory. By studying it.

Without understanding the claims Jung forwards how could you possibly refute them, pseud?
