They're reliable with pointing out a person's core quirks but nowadays they're used by Tumblrinas to flash their special-snowflake identity. It's about as cringe as the liberal arts students flashing their zodiac signs.

What about the idea that specific traits tend to be dominant while their corresponding twin traits become progressive weaker as the dominant trait asserts itself through life. I personally think that mature people are more narrow in their convictions and their personalizes than youngsters.

Read Psychological Types by Jung, the MBTI test was derived from that, it's a quick read.
The interpretion of dreams from Freud is also good.
Personality tests or any other evaluative measures aren't reliable predictors but serve their purpose within their limitations and interpretation, being aware of the method is good but I wouldn't go so far and call it an absolution.
