As for tattooing in past ages, often it had religious and cultural significance. In the first world and EM countries today, that is rarely the case.

I like tattoos, I have tattoos. Literary ones. It's funny how ubiquitously people on 4chan are against tattoos but can't really agree on what's actually wrong with them. To me that says that there is a shared reason they dislike them, it's just not one they can admit to themselves, resulting in a variety of retroactive justifications.
If tattoos make you feel anything strongly negative then perhaps you're taking life too seriously.

Interesting true fact: doctors where I am don't consider self harm within reason a concern. It is now classed as normal, unless you do something wild like cut your own foot off. But cutting and burning, that sort of thing? Utterly normal and not even necessarily worth a psychiatric referral.
