So my last three books were Heart of Darkness, No country for old men, and Blood Meridian
Can /lit/ recommend me my next read? I'm thinking something bloody, violent, dark. I prefer shorter reads (<400 pages) over longer.
>he read Heart of Darkness AND blood meridian

Is my post bad or am I just not understanding something?

I thought it was beautifully written. Welp.

To each their own. I can see why somebody could find it beautiful. Marlowe's descriptions are replete with beautiful imagery. Personally, I find it awful to read through huge blocks of text from his single viewpoint.
Kafka - In the Penal Colony

McCarthy - Child of God
I think it ticks all those.

Damn are you my high school ap teacher? I had to read all those books for him. Good thing too I passed the AP test based on writing I did for heart of darkness. We also read Things Fall Apart by chinua Achebe, who also wrote a critique of heart of darkness. Things Fall Apart might be considered a We Wuz an shiet book by this website but it's a good juxtaposition for heart of darkness and the two books work well together as one is told from a European perspective and the other a native one. I also really enjoyed Achebe's exposition about village life in Africa.

Last Exit to Brooklyn. It's bloody, violent and dark. It's a hyperrealistic depiction of street life in New York conceived through the abject and the despised. It's a masterpiece.
