Besides Boethius, what are some great works of Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages?

That is mostly dangerous propaganda. Now that I think of it, you had better skip the Romantics and the Victorians, too. For the contemporary period, you should study some selected comic books.

That's a meme around here. I don't know of anyone who actually believes that. Ezra Pound says you should learn Ancient Greek and other languages, but he still recommended and made his own translations.
