Hey /lit/, my books have recently acquired a nasty, musty smell to them, and it seems to be spreading. I can't find any obvious evidence of mold, leading me to think it may be some sort of mildew growing in the spine. Even worse, the smell has started spreading to other books of mine. I'm not certain it's mold/mildew, but the smell is rank and honestly gives me a headache whenever I breathe it in. How do I fix this without burning my books
Microwave one and see what happens. Report back.

Wouldn't that burn the book? I also don't have access to a microwave, but I suppose if necessary, I'll purchase one
Tell your mother to stop rubbing her cunt on your books

Don't keep them in humid or damp places. Basements for instance.
I would recommend taking one and putting it in the oven at maybe 300 degrees in order to dry it out. I don't think it will cause browning at that low a temperature but It would be best to try with a book you don't care about.

My apartment is relatively not humid, but for context, I recently arrived from a relative's apartment which seemed pretty humid, which is why I'm guessing my books from there smell this way. I suppose I'll experiment with the oven, thanks for the tip
Anyone else experience something similar? Almost tempted to trash all the infected books honestly
Leave them out in the sun for a few days.
Didn't you make this thread yesterday? Why the fuck have you picked such a dull topic to meme about?

Yes, because it failed yesterday, I assumed posting on a Saturday night was probably a bad idea, so I tried again today. I don't understand what you mean about meme, this is a real issue I'm having and wanted to hear some thoughts from other people who I, presume, own books

Not sure what this thread has to do with photographic evidence in favour of abortion.
Books ARE yonic objects after all.
If the place your put them isn't humid than it's probably the air
Get some little boxes of silica gel

Spray any offending books with colorless mold killer. Yeah, it'll fuck up the books, but they'll be readable at least, and you'll keep it from spreading to other books. Second, buy a dehumidifier. The kind you put salt blocks in. You can get them for about 15 bucks.
That's what I'd do. More, I can't tell you, but I'll add that as someone who collects old books (including those with slight mold), I've never had a book "infect" another one before. And the moldy ones don't even smell that bad- just like old attic or basement. It could be something else, or an aggressive kind of mold I don't know about. I'd call a professional cleaners and ask them about it. Better safe than sorry.
