Do you like swear words in literature?
They're as good as any other words. Plus swearing in English is kind of cute in it's expressive deficiency compared to other languages.

A lot of people swear, so yeah, if the book is realistic the character should swear. If done right, the narrator can swear too, but that can be difficult to pull off.

It's necessary to capture the rhythm of certain people's speech, so to omit it would be unrealistic.
I think a third person narrative should avoid it altogether, though.
