Reading Ulysses for a university course and was wondering if anybody who has read it has any tips for approaching it/if we could start a short term general thread in which we all read Ulysses together

I'm reading it for a class as well, what a coincidence. My class is doing two episodes every other week throughout our whole semester. It makes it a pretty chill read

It's a modernist unit, we're also reading To the Lighthouse and some other stuff, I think they intend to dedicate a couple of weeks into unpacking everything, god knows how they expect any of us to be able to have an understanding at the end of a week as they usually do

The key thing is not to skip passages you find difficult. If you lose the thread of the narrative you'll be hopelessly lost. Keep re-reading every section until it goes in.
An early test will come in the Proteus chapter, when you're challenged to follow Stephen's thoughts. He's a pretentious little oik, and its a bit like riding a bull while you're drunk ...
