How old were you when you grew out of Dostoevsky and embraced Tolstoy as the greatest author of all time?

I like them both. Thats like arguing if a Porsche 911 is better than a R8. Theyre both pretty top tier

I always preferred Tolstoy over Dostoevsky. Dostoevsky's characters feel like straw men.
Dostoevsky just overdoes it, characters always gasp or scream in terror, it's like comedy.
If Dostoevsky's Evangelion, then Tolstoy is K-On!!. Only real connoiseurs can appreciate the intricate, yet very simple message at the core of his work.

But thats what I like about him, and his work is intended to be somewhat comical. It reminds of Kurosawa, all the characters are super animated, which detracts from the realism but makes for fantastic characters. The same thing could be said about Shakespeare
