Is complete faith necessary for salvation? Or are veneration and reverence for the idea of God sufficient? Diving into Kierkegaard and want to hear /lit/s take.
Yes.
>veneration and reverence for the idea of God
So by this do you mean you find the idea of God appealing and worthy of worship, but not necessarily real?

Essentially. This is how I, and a lot of other people, think I feel in reality. Doubt is a motherfucker

>are veneration and reverence for the idea of God sufficient?
Not insofar as its thinkable in the hegelian system. You would need to have faith in God despite not understanding it. Though it should be said that Kierkegaard doesn't call it 'necessary' or directly argue for it, he just tries to explicate the religious life and make it look appealing.

That's part of Kierkegaard's thoughts, since God is altogether supernatural, trying to prove the existence, or even rationalise the minute details of it through natural means (logical thought, science, philosophy) ultimately comes down to a point where you simply need to take faith. Hence his phrase in pic related

>tfw I do comma autism in my post

How does one even go about doing this? The thought of purposefully abandoning the desire for rational explanation makes me uncomfortable.
>>9019170
A leap of faith is not a leap over the abyss, it is a leap into it.
>>9019202
So, purposefully abandoning rationality and simple meaning in worldly things like human connection in order to feel uncomfortable to the point that you have no choice but to turn to God for salvation from your miserable existence?
>>9019232
No? It's acknowledging that the concept of God is something that cannot be explained by rationality but still continuing toward it rather than away from it. At least that's what I've taken from him.
Philosophical suicide.

If you mean, "Is going through the motions enough?"
No.
Genuine faith is necessary. There are no alternatives.
That said, veneration and reverence should accompany genuine faith.
Also, it isn't genuine faith in the "idea" of God. It is genuine faith in the PERSON, God, His son, Jesus Christ, His Holy Spirit, and what he did for man which brings salvation.
