You just don't understand art. Art doesn't have to be "true".

Art is like food. Some people like a type of spaghetti, some people don't. Sometimes understanding of how a spaghetti was cooked, the different types of noodles, how it came to be assembled, hell, even how it was cooked and with what, plays into the enjoyment of the spaghetti. But it is entirely reasonable that this specific person doesn't like your type of spaghetti.
Does art have to be "true"?
No, but it not being true isn't requisite of it being good. Being "true" has impacts on a work, in the sense of logic, cause and effect, yadda yadda yadda, lending credence to its immersion and relationship to the reader.
inb4 "gay faggot is being gay, fuck you, [Author/Artist] is the best for all, and if you don't like it you are a faggot, faggot."
also inb4 "projecting"
pseudoscientific bullshit
Goethe's theory of the constitution of colours of the spectrum has not proved to be an unsatisfactory theory, rather it really isn't a theory at all. Nothing can be predicted with it. It is, rather a vague schematic outline of the sort we find in James's psychology. Nor is there any experimentum crucis which could decide for or against the theory.

But darkness does interact with light, what happens when you take some black paint and mix it on white?

Is there any understanding as to why different frequencies of light, yield the appearance of difference colors?
Is there any objective, transcendental meaning, as to what the perception of red, or blue is?
Is, our perception of red, what we call red, is red, an eternal universal concept?
Aliens might have different eyes (a billion different aliens might have a billion different eyes),
but there is only so many possible frequencies of light: some insects, animals, see light, color differently, maybe frequency A = red to us, and frequency C = red to them
Or maybe, what we perceive as red, is impossible to be perceived by them?
How is color possible?
