It's actually a destruction of the model of "All You Need is Kill" and general stories in which the theme is a return to the past by the protagonist once they die. This is why it all constantly repeats while having some progress, because on each "loop", there is some progress. However, the mental strain created by the circusmtances and the gradual effects of time lead to a vicious cycle of loss and recovery of sanity, so you'll find chapters in which people have died, etc.
It's really the slightest bit decent.
