Thoughts on Jane austen?
She's great. She has an excellent grasp of character and dialogue, and is objectively important to the history of English literature and the novel in general.

It's possible to fall in love with her heroines.

She is incredible, and proof that the banal writer's advice of "show, don't tell" is bullshit.
I own most of her popular books because they're always at thrift shops but I've never actually read any of them

I'm a big fan.
She's very observant and blends her insights into situations that are wry and funny. You don't always look at a Jane Austen character and recognize someone you know, but you will recognize that character's relationship to someone or something as something you know.
I didn't read her for a long time, then read all of her books in just a couple weeks, then read some old gothics to get a flavor of the Northanger horrids on top of that.
I share a lot of 4chan's complaints about women writers, but this one is sharp, lively and fun.
