Should I start writing my own book? I have a good imagination

Read the genre a lot first. Build up your skill by writing short stories. Your first attempts will be garbage but keep going. If you manage to commit that far then by all means write a book.

tips for writing would include actually fucking writing. then read the garbage you wrote and rewrite. then read that pile of shit and rewrite. then read that absolute trash and rewrite. continue until you've written something good. most people are so scared of writing something bad they don't even write anything at all.

arent these two a contradiction to themselves? plus if you dont have killer intelligence you wont get far in the crime novel genre.

a crime novel goes:

-Character Intro
-Setting
-Hint at deeper truth/moral

-Crime
-Reaction from 'hero'
-Reaction from witnesses

-Suspicion
-Strand of evidence
-Suspicion 'disproved'
-Audience doesnt buy it
-'Hero' abandons his truth
-Repeat

-Twist
-Final Reveal
-'Hero' finally accepts new improved truth

-Conclusion

that within itself seems simple to do, but if you cant make your evidence interesting, your twist believable, or any other aspect strong enough, the novel will die.

If you honestly want to git gud stay away from sherlock holmes because that is overplayed. instead read agatha christie. Hercule Poirot is a really interesting protagonist.

If you still cant sit down and think of anything forced, switch genres or practice for your imagination.

i write complete shit but that's because I never expect anyone to read it, I just like writing it and find fulfillment in it. I will never publish it because it's shit. No one gives a fuck about your book.
