Is this book any good? Why is it so long? Out of all his works

I read the first 200 pages or so and then dropped it because I didn't like it. This was years ago though so I can't really remember anything about the book

It's very good, better than The Shining.

Enjoyed the hell out of it when I was 15. May not be my cup of tea nowadays. I do remember it being his strongest title of the many I did read growing up.
