A modern classic. Don't be fooled by it's childlike exterior. Captain Underpants is full of hidden meaning and (if read with a patrician mindset) is one of the finest pieces of literature written during this century. Before starting you should have at least read
>All the Greeks
>Rig Veda
>Writings of the Gnostics, Marcion especially
>Summa Theologica
>Divine Comedy
>Nietzsche
>Heidigger
>Finnegan's Wake
>Carl Jung
And many more, but those are the basics. Now, understand that Captain Underpants may appear to be a character from a juvenile imagination, but in reality he is the Jungian archetype of a hero, stripped bare of worldly trappings. His wedgie power represents emasculation. Dr. Diaper wears a diaper because it is a representation of evil as embodied in an eternal child, unable to develop into a well-adjusted adult and lashing out against the grown-up world. A 'man-child' if you will. George and Harold, by contrast, are symbols of boisterous, but still well-adjusted childhood, that CU works to defend from being morphed into what Dr. Diaper represents.
Highly recommend. Enjoy.
