How does /lit/ like Tom Wolfe? I'm asking for a friend.

I like his stuff. Tom Wolfe and Thomas Wolfe are both pretty good, for very different reasons.

He's always readable, although his latest "Kingdom of Speech," an alleged refutation of Chomsky's linguistic theory, is just barely. But, to me, he is a good observer of social scenes and trends. He's no Hunter Thompson or Truman Capote, or even Norman Mailer, but he is from the same school of non-fiction novel writing and pretty much the last one left.
Electric Kool Aid Acid Test is a fantastic book.
He's always wearing snappy clothes but I don't have a ton of interest in his stuff.
I dated a highschool teacher who used to recommend some of his stuff to her students. I am Charlotte Simmons or Bonfire of the Vanities, I can't remember which (or maybe both).

He's the last great American novelist.
