Should Thomas Sowell become mandatory reading in school?
>>8926467
Yep. He's contributed far more to economics than Pseudo intellectuals like Marx and his ilk
Basic Economics should be required reading for everyone.
Only if you introduce the study of alternative economic systems.
>>8926514
But school is already filled with trash like socialism and marxism.
>>8926514
>alternative economic systems
Pure fucking trash
>The study of
>Implying there is anything to study
>>8926467
lmao schools are Marxist institutions, buddy
good luck with that
>>8926524
>But school is already filled with trash like socialism and marxism.
>being this /pol/ and living in an imaginary world
>>8926467
Yes!
who are some lefty economists to counter le black man?
>>8926795
>leftist
>economists
>>8926795
Piketty (though arguably he's not a leftist as such, his methodology inescapably leads that way)
>>8926467
Yes.
>>8926795
>leftist economists
>>8926827
>the best they've got is a mainstream economist whose theory has fuck all empirical evidence
>>8926795
Richard Wolff writes very accessible stuff.
>>8926950
The left doesn't have much beyond Marx
>>8926950
The economics field is extremely ideological and neatly supresses views that are unacceptable in the prevailing discourse.
There are many leftist sociologists that you could read, if you got rid of the meme that economics is somehow the perfect science that supersedes all other social sciences.

This is fucking unsubstantiated bullshit from a person who is clearly not in the field
>>8927029
This is ideology commenting, denying its own existence
>>8927057
The sociological field is extremely ideological and neatly supresses views that are unacceptable in the prevailing discourse.
There are many left leaning economists that you could read
Ain't this game fun?
>>8927070
It's not fun when I agree with what you're saying
>>8926467
He's great if you're looking for a black man to confirm your views
>>8927089
Hell no it's all red and dialectical out there
>>8927070
Except that's completely wrong. Sociology is practiced with several theoretical frameworks that coexist peacefully. If you'd ever take a course in sociology, you'd see that, for instance, it's not controversial to examine some social phenomena from the perspective of functionalism and marxism/conflict theory, even though they're usually very much opposed.
Is there even any point in reading laymans economics books?
Isn't that like reading pop-sci books to try to understand quantum field theory?
>>8926795
Thomas Piketty's book Capital is real nigga economics. Its a really impressive achievement.
When you're learning about economics you need to read both sides of economic thought.
Any book from an actual right winger (an ultra-montanist, for example) that I can learn about this economy shit so I can end this crap and go back to things that actually matter?
