I don't know about books that deal with this (Zola and naturalism in literature are similar, but they believe that a person is guided deterministically by their genes instead of the surrounding).
This whole idea is, afaik, disregarded by psychology. I was taught, at least, that a person is formed both by its genes and the upbringing.

Unless you're of the belief that theres some kind of human soul or higher plane of consciousness, and that this can account for inherent differences between people that aren't directly observable as being a result of their upbringing or physical characteristics, then you have to agree that you'd be identical to the downie as you'd have the mind of that downie, as well as that same downie body.

You're a clone in both body and mind, as well as environment. Its not even Nature vs Nurture, its "what if both N/N were the same in two scenarios, would they result in the same person?". I'd say yes, but given its not actually possible to do any of this its more of just a "fun" thought experiment than anything worth seriously debating over. Any serious debate would result from arguing (as ive said) as to whether or not a soul/higher plane shit exists and has an impact on who we are as a person.

Children A and B are genetically different. Children A and B grow in different environments and develop, respectively, personalities A and B. If, child B grew up in child A's habitat, MAINTAINING ITS DNA, it would develop an A personality. Likewise, if child A had grown up in B's environment, it would develop a B personality, since DNA does not affect personality development.
This is what your thesis should be.

Children A and B have THE SAME DNA. The rest follows identically.
