Hey /lit/
What are some of the best non-fiction books on the history and culture of the Wild West? I'm looking more for survey-level works than any specific place or event. Alternatively, what are some of the best fiction books that you feel come closest to accurately capturing it?
I know it was a lot different (not necessarily more boring) than most of its portrayals in pop culture. I suppose I could ask this in /his/ but I figured I'd get a quicker response here.

There is no singular vision of the Wild West, but for what I imagine the canonized vision to be, fiction would be Larry McMurtry, non-fiction would be Dee Brown
