There's more to his work than these two defining novels of his. Down and Out is written in first person as a memoir of sorts. However, the timeline is stitched together, and much is left out in terms of his immediate predicament. For example, when he left Paris, he did not go straight in the slums of London and turn tramping, but instead went to his parents and had already experience with tramping; he had also published essays at this point, something he neglects to mention. In Paris, he had relatives who'd lend him funds if he'd inquire. But he also neglects to mention this, instead painting himself in quite the dire predicament.
This all makes we wary of his accounts described in Homage to Catalonia. Just how much can you trust to be an accurate recount of the events, even if written in good faith?

i took an orwell class with one of the worlds top orwell scholars. he was literally a propaganda writer - this is evident in homage. burmese days and down and out in london are just typical embellishment - both are awesome.

you are out of your goddamn mind if you think 1984 is anything more than entry-level baby's first "real book" dystopian fantasy
