I do, and I would nonetheless be outraged if I were the best selling novelist of all time, because I'm not a very good writer; and so I have the decency not to write for a living.

my guess is that many people started the series as kids, pre-teens, or teenagers and finished when they were in their late teens or twenties, after they had moved out of their parents houses

thus, one copy per family was just fine for the first books in the series, and less so for the later ones
