Hey /lit/, who are your favorite female science fiction writers?
I've been reading a lot of stuff by Philip k dick and stanislaw lem recently, and noticed that most of the sci-fi I read is by men. Any recommendations?

and?
Ursula K. Le Guin
Margaret Atwood
idk I don't read genre trash

It's not like there's anything wrong with male writers, but I'm interested in accessing different perspectives to my own. Plus, because of the social context of the 20th century the most celebrated authors are men, so I'm interested in finding out about what else is out there.

Cool, I've seen Ursula K. Le Guin's name around so I'll check her out.
What do you read?
There's an entire subgenre called "feminist sci-fi". Give "The Female Man" a try I guess. Also I recommend dropping the notion of "male" or "female" author.
Octavia Butler is like a black, female PKD
Judith Butler is also p good

Don't be silly. Works of art are informed by the circumstances in which they are created. Therefore a woman's perspective on something may be different to that of a man's.
You don't need to go tumblr style "muh dead white men" if you just want some variety.

Of course, but I find it more benefitial to cut that factor off in the first place. Good writing doesn't have gender.

I appreciate your perspective and agree that good writing isn't about gender, but (like the previous person said), even though gender doesn't matter, the fact that it exists as as an idea in society it necessarily characterizes people's lives and experiences, in idiosyncratic ways, regardless if you choose to acknowledge it doing so or not.

How does science fantasy written by a transexual female black cripple with diabetes sound to you? I could hook you up but you need to say the progressive passphrase since we can't do the secret handshake. Ya dig?

>I hope you are doing well today
Sorry man, that's not it.
