Are you sixteen years old? I'd say I liked this book when I was, in fact, a teenager. The movie is bad compared with the novel, but I re-read it not long ago and I didn't like it anymore. Same happened to me with Murakami. These kind of books aren't terribly bad but once you start reading better authors and you come back to this kind of novels, then you notice all their flaws.
I couldn't take it seriously after the anti-LSD anecdote was related.
