So there are people that literally just come to 4chan to use /lit/?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

So there are people that literally just come to 4chan to use /lit/?
>>
/lit/ is my main board, and I hop to /r9k/ and /b/ to look at hot girls when it's slow.
>>
started on /b/ 13 years ago and pretty much use /lit/ exclusively now
>>
>>8827084
here, mostly use reddit tbqh
>>
>>8827085
>>8827088
This is incredible to me. Do you mind if I ask how old both of you are?
>>
>>8827090
So you love to read serious literature, but also enjoy simple 4chan memes?
>>
And /mu/, yes.
>>
>>8827092
27
>>
>>8827092
25

I love memes and 4chan culture and shit but it's honestly too normie now at risk of sounding trite. I just love books a lot more than the vast majority of people here so I stick with the /lit/ board.
>>
>>8827093
4chan has better memes for sure, but dicussion here can be stymied through anonymity in frustrating ways (much like reddit's upvote system filters out people that disagree, 4chan is overrun with people that complain about EVERYTHING) i don't want a hugbox, but i also want to actually be able to talk about women writers too.

My favorite is modernist poetry, but that seems to be changing.
>>
>>8827085
>>8827088

Friendly reminder that these are the people who get triggered and tell youj to back to boards like /pol/, /sp/ and /tv/, while they actively browse /b/
>>
Yeah, I solely use /lit/.

/lit/ is my home board
i browse other boards off and on.
i barely use any other websites.
>>
>>8827102
>>8827108
So are there really no better literature sites on the internet? I use /mu/ and have noticed that it actually is one of the better music discussion boards on the internet. Is it the same here with /lit/?
>>
>>8827084
Started on /sci/, moved to /lit/, then /v/. I'm probably just a shitposter
>>
>>8827126
this is what i was talking about. this shit doesn't "add to the charm" or anything, it's just dumb and in high doses can mess up otherwise good threads just so this guy can giggle and say "hoowee boy howdy I sure did derail that thread"

>>8827119
>>8827100
I started there, but the only thing that helped me find music, was the chart threads (but they were so much work)
>>
>>8827135
What other websites do you use?>>8827108
>>
>>8827108
That seems pretty interesting. Are you a literature major? Do you have a job that deals with a lot of literature?
>>
>>8827137
r/literature feels a bit like homework and places like goodreads or rym don't really foster conversation.
>>
>>8827135
this x10
>>
>>8827137
>So are there really no better literature sites on the internet?

Plenty of good sites, but no discussion boards. /lit/ is 99% garbage but occasionally there's a good thread.
>>
>>8827139
See this whole separate culture on the same website I visit every day is fascinating to me. You may consider yourself as someone who barley knows anything about literature and shitposts, but compared to me you probably know infinitely more about literature.

I sometimes go on /tv/ to see all the porn spam, since that's quite funny, but other than the only place I actually post on is /lit/.

I'm 22 and I feel way too old for other boards. I know this comes off as pretentious, but I just don't find the humour funny anymore. /int/ was hilarious to me at first, but now I realise that it's just about posting the most moronic thing possible in an attempt to get (You)'s
>>
>>8827165
I personally don't have one, but I knew some people did do that with other boards. It really shocked me when it dawned on me that people might use /lit/ as their home board.
>>
>>8827170
No sorry I was replying to the other comment and went to go reply to yours, but the auto poster wasn't finished yet so it put your post in the comment box.
>>
>>8827173
So you don't enjoy the 4chan culture at all anymore, but still use the website for /lit/? Is there really that much less of the site's humor on /lit/?
>>
>>8827084
Pretty much.
I mostly browse /lit/, /his/ and /mu/

I went over to /b/ for the first time in years last week. I forgot its pretty much just porn with shitposting as filler

I don't enjoy the shitposting. It tires me.
>>
>>8827259
It may not seem like serious literature discussion, but compared to most of the rest of the internet /lit/ is very well read.
>>
>>8827137
I use /lit/ almost exclusively, but I think the place where the advantage of being part of 4chan shows the most not in the discussion threads but when bad writing gets spoofed. The emphasis on shitposting, quality trolling, and running memes comes together with a community that actually does have some mastery over English for occasionally very satisfying passages.
>>
>>8827282
I understand this. With any hobby I guess there is always a part of each community that wants to parody their hobby and "meme" it.

i think a lot of us just want to shoot the shit with other (somewhat) like-minded people, and enjoy the vague pretext of 'literature' governing our interactions. Something about trap threads on r9k doesn't quite inspire me to post.

This is the only place where I communicate with others online, and its nice to be able to freely walk in and out of a discussion. Theres no social pressure, you aren't going to be ignored just because you're a newcomer, theres no reputational costs, etc. It's great. I used to be a big forum user in the '00s but every thread turned into a circlejerk between a few of the earliest posters endlessly chainquoting one another, and your identity followed you into every thread. It wasn't so bad back when you could just leave a forum, but now doxxing is so easy to do even with relatively little personal information that having a profile anywhere subjects you to some serious risks.

4chan is the closest thing to pre-fb forum culture anymore, and so it feels like home to me. This is the only place where I can relax and just speak freely about certain things; I'm even at liberty to reveal personal details from time to time because there is no paper trail. It's not always about serious discussions, it's about having a space to exist honestly online. It's incredible to be express myself sincerely when I'm so repressed in the course of my day-to-day life.

4chan might be the ultimate manifestation of man's unsocial sociability.
>>
>>8827252
Well, aside from writing genre-fiction-ish poetry, reading the historical fiction, and playing vidya, I enjoy mathematics as well as computer science (which I'm nearing the end of my undergrad in). I play golf with my father and uncles as well as take care of two dogs and a cat. I also occasionally watch an episode or two of sienen anime about once a month

>>
>>8827084
I crossboard all the time but I usually lurk in /lit/ since I don't have much to contribute
>>
/lit/ is my main board and I've been on 4chan for like ten years. I think my main boards way, way back (6+ years) were /v/ and /tg/. After that it was /r9k/ and /lit/, then /pol/ (but never /new/).

Now I mostly come here for /lit/, but I'll check /pol/ once or twice a day to see if anything fun is happening.
>>
>>8827593
To add some more:

There are smart people here, and it's slow-moving enough that shitposting is done semi-artfully sometimes. The only other board with bizarrely self-aware shitposting that I've found is /tv/, which is fun to browse even if you don't like TV or movies because of how thoughtful people are about posting awful garbage to make each other laugh.

It's the same kind of vibe as FYAD on old SomethingAwful, I think. There's this balance you have to strike, between, say, /v/ on the one hand, where the memeshit is mostly unreflective and people are just going with the flow, and on the other hand, /r/literature, where people are trying way too hard and taking it too seriously, and there are too many constraints (fear of getting banned, of offending normies, etc.).

/lit/ has a nice balance between retard "lad culture" and seriousness/intelligence. The seriousposting is irreverent, and the shitposting is polished.

Kek it's filled with dilettantic teenagers with extremely limited listening preferences. If you've been listening to music for more than a year then you're doing yourself a disservice by browsing /mu/.

/sharethreads/ are actually still decent. Sometimes there's cancer, but its usually just a few posts.

Out of all these /trv/ is by far the best board, but it's painfully slow.

/b/ used to be the cultural center and gathering place of 4chan. It had its own distinct culture and sometimes did really funny things like raids and shit.

The magic kind of died around 2014 or so when political shit made users move to either /pol/ or /r9k/, fragmenting the user base.

I think the worst part about /mu/ is that even the shitposting and memes, which is like the pus that remains when all cultural value has died out, is juvenile. Take /tv/ for example, it's garbage for discussing film but funny to some extent, /mu/ however is just spongebob posting by facebook dwelling 16 year olds so it's garbage in every aspect.

Did anyone else start out using 4chan just for porn? Back in 06 or 07 I started coming to /s/ and /h/ but didn't browse discussion boards until years later.

Now my main board is /pol/ even though I'm Jewish and don't agree with those idiots. I'm a news junkie though. Also go to /lit/, /biz/, /sp/, and sometimes /tv/.

This site is not a good thing in anyone's life, especially /pol/. I think it's a great idea but just didn't work out, the anonymity. I don't know why I come here, it just breeds negativity. I have a good life and am not suicidal and the NEETs and outcasts really bring me down.

I was thinking about why /sci/ is such a garbage board
/sci/fags will say it's because there aren't any real smart people who browse 4chan even though career threads on /fit/ and /pol/, thought of as the retard boards, get their fair share of engineers, doctors and businessmen. My gut tells me it's because everyone who browses /sci/ is an insufferable cunt. starting browsing at 13/14 after a friend mentioned it. Came here out of "lel muh sekret club worst place on the internet holy shit!!"

Lmao there are still people who believe that shit. showed my 11 year old bro 4chan to try and get him hooked. Didn't work. Probs a good thing considering how I turned out. Thanks to the /r/redpill and r9k I rejected a lot of stacies in highschool who wanted to become my friend and invited me to parties. Ironically acted autistic because I thought I was being redpilled. Insulted girls to try to seduce them. A girl came up to an acquaintance and introduced me. I literally called her an animal and should be kept in a zoo with the other women.

I'm mixed race/half cast

I was depressed all my teenage years, hated highschool and yet would do it all again because I now know how to interact with people.

No one fucking told me 4chan was made up of teenagers just like myself. I thought it was an accurate representation of humanity.

I at least had semi autistic friends tho. We're not friends anymore

I got sick of r9k after years of browsing it. But I just moved onto other boards. There's so many boards I'll be here forever. /lit/ and /biz/ is probably the best influence on you since they focus on bettering yourself. /fit/ seems like that but is focused on asthetics and women, and you get get real tired of their vapidity. /biz/ introduced me to personal finance or at least inspired me to, while /lit/ definitley got me to read the classics and philosophy since I wanted to be as smart as they are. But now I know you're just 80% shit posting. I am glad however.

Bet you exclusively skim through philosophy to look smart in front of your teenage friends, all /mu/lit/ crossposters are the same

/lit/ mainly
/pol/ sometimes, especially in the last few months leading up to the election
sometimes i go on /gif/ if i wanna see some boobs but there's usually something gross like a glass pipe in a pee hole that prevents me from going there

>So are there really no better literature sites on the internet?
Not that I know of. You have to wonder if there's some private forum somewhere that is entirely populated with the international cream of the literati. Where do the good contemporary authors hang out? I refuse to believe that /lit/ is the best place for discussion of literature but so far I've not found anyplace better.

I'll check /lit/ once every few days to check if there's anything new or interesting. Rarely I'll go to a porn board and get disgusted with myself.

>They say evil men have no songs; how is it then that the Russians have songs?
Nitezsche thinks there's something wrong with you lads. You're going to need songs to sing to yourself in the middle of the cold night on the mountain once politics does break down to its basic and most bare components.
