Do you guys like Sherlock Holmes?
Has detective fiction gone downhill since then? Was Sherlock Holmes as a character /lit/
I like /lit/ Sherlock, despise /tv/ Sherlock.
I'm a sucker for detective stories.
I enjoyed Hounds of the Baskervilles when I read it for a class but I've never been tempted to read any of the other books. I don't really read detective books

>/tv/ Sherlock
The Russian version is pretty faithful if you don't mind subtitles

Likewise mate. Can you recommend some good books?

No, it's genre fiction, it's repetitive as hell and the only redeeming factor is the personality of Holmes which, while interesting, doesn't hold everything together.

I love Sherlock Holmes. He's definitely /lit/. Not only that, but he Sir Arthur Conan Doyle also influenced forensic thought - that's pretty patrician if you ask me.
The current BBC version of him, and the Basil Rathbone versions of him are my favorite televised renditions.

The repetitiveness was the first thing I thought of when I read the OP's questions, although I have to say that Agatha Christie was even more repetitive with her characters.
I still re-read the stories once in a while, when I'm in the mood for something easy and entertaining.
