Where should I start with Poe? Never read him before.

Did Poe created monsters and mythos like Lovecraft did or is it more like psychological terror?

his stuff mostly stands independently, lovecraft was closer to a fantasy (or weird fiction as it was called contemporaneously) sort of thing where he had a world pictured in his head that he tried to put to paper.

Come on, m. Valdemar is essential too.

It's real good but it's not one of the core stories you need to read, otherwise I would have put Man of the Crowd up there. Plus I wouldn't be able to choose between that and Mesmeric Revelation since they're both generally the same thing told differently.
