Anon read a great book a few years ago, and OMG HE DOESNT REMEMBER A THING. 2/10 memory, probably didnt really read it.
I thought the baseball thing, the Dodgers and Sinatra and Jackie Gleason and all, that was fantastic.
But it lost me when it switched gears, or I lost it.
In any event, I set it down not to be re picked back up.
But those first 30 odd pages were teriff.

The bit where the cheating wife smokes heroin was good, and the description of the mc's brother getting The Fear after smoking super-strength hydro was so uncanny I had a vicarious panic attack.
Fuck the pomo baseball McGuffin and enjoy the ride.
The bombing raid chapter in Vietnam is some of the best writing I've ever encountered.
The Clara parts were the weakest.
