Doesn't particularly matter to me either.
I'm much happier with something that's as inconsequential as this being in doubt than having people try to portray the truth and coming up lacking.

No opinion on this book, but if anyone did want to "expose" it to be fake if there's evidence that it is I don't see it coming out before the author's death bc a. it's not that popular/in the front of the culture still b. isn't a good look.
