How do you name your characters? Do you look for a "meaningful"

I mostly take my names from Football Manager games

Chaotic Route: Alyosha

I let my Japanese internet friend read Eastern-European names out loud on skype and then write them down as she pronounces them phonetically.

I explicitly avoid describing individuals and dialogue directly and only refer to them by their physical or psychological contributions to a scene

Usually I come up with names that sound nice or interesting, even if they seem silly or weird. I also tend to make up names just so I can have characters with cool sounding names or something I think would fit their personality.

surnames are for the most part random but somewhat connected to the character's place, time, and history

for first names i put myself in the position of the character's parents and choose what they would have

I give them boring, ill-fitting names and have the other characters give them nicknames.
