Except that's not really what happened. It's not even necessary to make excuses. If you go beyond Sokal's version, it's clear he was just misrepresented to situation to make a point.

He set out to make a point, decided to make in a way where he was sure his article would get published, ignored that he was called on his bullshit, and then acted like the dumb stunt he pulled in a nonreviewed, second-rate journal had any kind of bearing on humanities as a whol.e
