How do I make my mom more /lit/? Looking for Christmas present books.
I would describe her as an intelligent person. She's in her early 60s, rational, a "natural leader," well educated and not a philistine in any sense.
She likes shit like legal thrillers and detective novels (think Michael Connelly) which is fine, but I think she has "lost" the poetry/prose bug and would really appreciate the feeling of amazement and exhilaration that one gets when reading really good prose or verse. I'm thinking of trying Nabokov with her which was my own introduction to the beauty of English, but I'm afraid it might put her off. Any advice is appreciated. Where to begin?

You know her better than we, but if you're coming to us, I can only suggest you ask her. Spoils the surprise, but leads to a better gift.
