Am I the only one that finds his writing uneven? I swear, what I've read of him varies between actually good prose and tryhard show-offery.

The only times BM had me engaged were the Guano scene, the war speech, and the ending, for example.

I find that his earlier works are much, much better. i find his later novels unbearable. It's like he convinced himself that he needed to evolve his style into some sort of unique, repetitive/repugnant non-prose.
