When Holmes used graphic sex scenes in The End of Alice, we also get a deeper insight into the psychology of the novel's characters. They were there but they were revealed layer by layer.
When Nutting wrote her sex scenes, it was like something out of a shitty porno. It did nothing to build the character other than shoving the face she's a pedo in the reader's face.
