At the heart of this book lies the dogma that you should sincerely show an interest in the people around you, and they will naturally like you in return.
Has this premise been eroded by the role of irony in the contemporary social zeitgeist? Are we, by and large, so detached from sincerity because of it's utter derailment by irony that we actually find it repulsive outside of the context of those who we have already built an intimate relationship with?
Are these intimate relationships forged in that same ironic and detached landscape? Are our close friends, then, totally arbitrary in relation to the sincere self, chosen by convenience and circumstance rather than a genuine and mutual admiration of character?

You use too complicated words. Sociology is easy subject. Easy words.

Irony? Like the element? Iron is transition metal. It donates electrons and forms ion cores.

I think it's still true, the problem is that people have convinced themselves that they need to lie to be liked. That only works in the public sector, where you need to lie in public on purpose to present yourself a certain way. Public life people only do that to avoid criticism.
In private life you need to have a deeper connection with others and so many don't have that or can't even express their own thoughts.
It's no wonder you can't get it, because you don't know who you are, his book is for people who at least have themselves figured out enough that they can interact honestly with others.
Instead of just trying to fuck a girl because she's a girl, when you would rather not spend any time with her and just fuck her but lead her along. Then you get disappointed when she leaves you for the guy who just was yapping sex, sex at her from the start.
