The Last Feast of Harlequin is up there
I think I like the idea of Ligotti more than his fiction. A reclusive and underachieving nihilist with severe social anxiety writing WaPo/NYRB/WSJ/Penguin Classics-approved cult horror sounds like a personal fantasy, but the actual product is, well, boring. Not always, but often. His prose is stilted and sometimes nauseatingly florid, he repeats images and ideas constantly, and his narratives can be very flat. He doesn't have Poe's rhythm or Lovecraft's imagination.
That said, I've enjoyed several of his stories, particularly:
The Town Manager
The Christmas Eves of Aunt Elise
The Troubles of Dr. Thoss
The Last Feast of Harlequin
Sect of the Idiot

His suicide.
