Decided im gonna use my spare time to write.
Figure i could come to /lit/ for suggestions.
Should i write a book and try to get it published? Start with short stories?
Where did you start and was it a good place to?
Art like pic related always has me thinking about a backstory or an explanation but i never can convince myself to put it down on paper or if i do i can never do it in a way that i don't think turns out retarded so i just scrap it. to this day ive gotten a paragraph or two saved in a random spot on my hard drive that i never plan to look at again.
But now ive got the will to actually create a body of work so give me tips.
Reply pls im trying to be the next shakespeare here

read about ekphrastic works, and try some out. they're super fun.

Ekphrastic poems dont really appeal to me as most of them dont have any sort of plot.
As a writer i want to focus on plot and worldbuilding. Thats why i get so inspired by interesting but unexplained art and photos.
The picture was framed to focus on the brother's kite and she is being used to guide the eye of the view to the kite. I don't know anything about the red smoke in the sky.

im asking what the fuck i should with.
Is it really as easy as think of a story and write it?
i thought there were steps or something

There are no fucking steps. You form an idea and you write. I've scrapped dozens of ideas and only settled on one after years of trial and error.
You write dogshit until you come up with a good idea or you churn shit out like Stephen King until you have a good idea or two.
A good story can come out of any idea if you're patient and dedicated enough to form it. I write philosophical horror stories in a myriad of situations. Everything from science fiction and fantasy to historical settings. I just find an idea and work with it. If it sucks, I move the fuck on.

That's not smoke. They're exaggerated sun-lit clouds. If they were not colored to match the flowers, the picture wouldn't look as "carefree" and the wast body of water and the clear-ish sky would be more intimidating.
Nobody reads short stories these days except in a creative writing class. Write them if you want to practice but if you want to get published might as well through yourself at a novel.

No one can tell you what your goal is. Write something you want to write until it's finished or you don't want to write it anymore, in which case write something else. Can't be any more specific without a goal.

The podcast market is full of short stories

Alright, nobody BUYS short stories. If you put them up on amazon or another service you're not going to get many sales.
