in my city there is library in modernistic building that is one of the most expensive where i live. All good books from my country, and classics and most of notable authors, also second floor with local poetry, various science writings and most of major philosophical works from all periods. Everything for free obviously, as i am kinda ashamed to still leach from them after 5 years. Still 80 % of clientele are housewives and ya readers and librarians are some vapid womemes quietly laughing at "dat nerd who reads"

Libraries pay for books like everyone else. There is even special marketing for it. Why would publishers give out product for free just so people could use it instead of buying it in the first place?
