Translated, really. I'm just learning German, so if you can also recommend books for beginners, that would be cool. But for right now, I'm just focused on reading some of the German classics.

Grimms Märchen are nice and gory and you get a taste in classic german/ central european culture.

>Central European

I think Grimms Märchen and such classic tales like Struwwelpeter would be relatively easy in their language use.
If you're into that, you might like a collection of Deutsche Heldensagen (german hero tales).

Germany is still part of Western Europe, mate. Central Europe is, like, Poland, Austria, Czech Republic, etc.

You've Göthe read Faust

Germany is culturaly central europe, especially if we're speaking about Grimms Märchen which are collected tales from the dark green area. We might think of it as western, thanks to the last century but that doesn't change the culture which evolved through millenia.
Being "central" it of course _can_ also be seen as western, just as poland can be seen as eastern. Get your Erkunde together.

You do know that such "borders" aren't absolut? Especially in the last centuries culture didn't really change through whole europe, besides small local quirks. The only reason to speak about such arbitrary categories like western, central etc is to have a rough perimeter.
So yes, people living in Aachen (D) are still part of central europe, as can people in Venlo (NL) say that. You're thinking too geopolitical.

Just make sure that the Nibelungensaga/ Niebelungenlied is in there, which if written in modern german should be understandable with moderate language skills.
