why does it seem everyone is locked into an echo chamber?
is there any way to avoid being absorbed into one myself? any fruitful way? it seems they benefit greatly by being a part of it. should i not want their great benefit?
Also, it seems as though, in an effort to be even-handed, i only ever seem to provoke..
please share your experiences.

This is one unexpected and paradoxical side effect of the growth of the Internet and the proliferation of content on it
It's no longer as pressing to coexist with others of different viewpoints since one can live all of life in discussion with like-minded people
The best way to avoid lockin is awareness of the issue and active pursuit of a diversity of viewpoints
Being locked in to an echo chamber is not beneficial. It's comforting, but it stifles true understanding and growth

>why does it seem everyone is locked into an echo chamber?
You're right, everyone is locked in an echo chamber.

i mean, are you being ironic and calling me out for poor wording or do you really feel that way?
i mean, i didn't mean EVERYONE.

Universal mass media is dead and this is a sad thing when its replacement is ghettoized mass media.

It's just #bantz bro.
I am also pointing out that this whole exercise is likely to put you in an echo chamber, although I find it weird that you claim everyone is in one but then end with you provoking everyone. There's maybe a leap of reasoning there.
I do notice that people get really emotional though.

Very true. The fact that someone has a different viewpoint as you doesn't mean that you're not compatible as friends.

yeah, I think it is just that, emotionality. i swear, i need a thicker skin for this stuff. I get baited too easily by people who have high emotional attachment to a subject when I am only so-so towards it.

Consider everyone to be like a different type of food, they all congregate together to form appropriate meals;
Are you suggesting one massive feast?
You want everyone to think the same, comrade?

Citizenry reaching a consensus leads to action, which is bad because the state has already been perfected. The only thing we can do is ruin it. Echo chambers are good for society.

Fuck you, everyone is not locked in an echo chamber. Echo chambers don't even exist.youre welcome

>is there any way to avoid being absorbed into one myself?
It's pretty fucking easy, you just have to constantly and deliberately expose yourself to ideas outside your comfort zone.
> it seems they benefit greatly by being a part of it.
They really don't. Spending to much time in an echo chamber will turn your brain into pudding.

There is a flipside to this. You also have people who live in very homogeneous communities who have only ever been exposed to one way of thinking exploring other ideas via the internet.
